Welcoming Andrew to Lumary as VP of Revenue: A Vision for Growth & Impact
We are excited to welcome Andrew to Lumary as our new VP of Revenue. Andrew brings a wealth of experience in customer success, sales engineering, and high-growth technology startups, making him a fantastic addition to our leadership team.
In this Q&A session, Andrew shares what inspired him to join Lumary, his leadership philosophy, and how he plans to contribute to our mission-driven growth.
What inspired you to join Lumary as VP of Revenue, and what excites you most about this opportunity?
I’ve had the privilege of working with and getting to know Kyle Hanagarne, President of Lumary North America, in previous startups, and I have deep respect for him. So when he mentioned this opportunity, I was immediately interested. The same goes for Ryan Westwood, Chairman of Lumary’s board—being part of a talented, principled, and trustworthy team is foundational to me.
Then I learned about Joseph Mercorella, CEO of Lumary, and his story of launching the company. Listening to him on a podcast, I could hear his sincerity in wanting to unlock potential for healthcare providers. I have autism in my family, and from a young age, my teachers and family instilled in me the importance of respecting the dignity of individuals with autism.
There are many great people dedicated to supporting and empowering autism and ABA providers. That’s inspiring, but initially, I wasn’t sure how I could uniquely contribute. However, after reflecting on my experience—deep technical and market expertise in Salesforce (the foundation of Lumary’s product) and a track record of launching new products into new markets—I saw a clear path. Lumary is already the market leader in Australia, and its talented, growing U.S. team is making incredible strides. I realized this was an opportunity where I could truly add value and help lift the team to new heights.
Can you share a brief overview of your career journey and the key experiences that shaped your leadership style?
I have a computer science degree, which helps me relate to my technical teammates—though I’m nowhere near skilled enough to write code myself! My journey led me through sales engineering and into customer success, which became the core of my experience across three high-growth tech startups.
Along the way, I built and led adjacent teams in solution consulting, technical support, and account management, across different segments and geographies. At G2, I launched a new team focused on selling into the services space. Later, I took on consulting roles, working with CEOs and sales leaders at small startups across vastly different industries—from religious nonprofits to outsourcing and waste management. These experiences broadened my perspective and leadership approach.
As a leader, my strength lies in attentive listening and leading from the front. While I’m not qualified for deeply technical tasks, I always aim to jump in, contribute, and learn alongside my team.
How do you approach building and leading high-performing teams in a fast-moving industry?
Over time, my approach has evolved. In the past, my instinct was to hire aggressively, take on multiple initiatives, and get lost in meetings. Now, at Lumary, I want to be more deliberate and strategic in how we grow.
We are fortunate to have strong momentum and an incredible foundation of talent. My focus is on adding to this team purposefully, ensuring we continue to support businesses that provide ABA therapy and autism services.
The demand for quality care in this space is growing steadily. Only well-run businesses can attract, retain, and deploy great clinicians to serve their clients effectively. Our role at Lumary is to empower these businesses, and I want every team member who joins us to be passionate about this mission.
What values or principles guide you when making difficult decisions, both professionally and personally?
When faced with a big decision, I try to slow down and pray throughout the process. I tend to overthink, so I leverage this by examining the decision from multiple angles. I also seek guidance from those I trust—above all, my wife, Amanda.
Is there a particular book, mentor, or experience that has had a lasting impact on your leadership style?
There are many. Godard Abel is an entrepreneur who founded and led the three startups where I spent 14 years learning and growing. He is ambitious, fearless, vulnerable, a great listener, and generous—a leader people naturally want to follow. I think about what I’ve learned from him almost every day.
Beyond Godard, I’ve been fortunate to learn from a generation of entrepreneurs he helped shape. Listing them all would be excessive, but they’ve each contributed to my growth.
For a long time, I resisted reading business books, but I recently picked up Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink. It resonated deeply. When things get difficult, it’s easy to make excuses, but this book reminds me that I am where I am because of my choices. If I want to grow further, it starts with the decisions I make moving forward.
Do you have a favorite quote or mantra that keeps you motivated?
One that comes to mind is Psalm 23:
“The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.”
When I use my talents to build something great, there’s always a temptation to think that success comes from me alone. This psalm reminds me that any good place I find myself is because He has led me there—and if I continue to trust Him, He will lead me further.
Even for those who aren’t religious, I think it’s valuable to reflect on who has helped lift you to where you are.
Outside of work, what hobbies or activities help you recharge and maintain balance?
My wife and I have five kids (ages 10, 8, 6, 4, and 2), so a lot of my personal time is centered around them! Over the years, my hobbies have evolved into shared experiences with my children—whether it’s reading, playing music, praying, or video games, these moments help me recharge and stay connected.
We’re thrilled to have Andrew on board and can’t wait to see the impact he’ll have on Lumary’s growth and mission! Welcome to the team, Andrew!
